TONY CONRAD performs live on WFMU

On radio station WFMU April 1, 2010 (TODAY — this afternoon!) from 3-6PM on Strength Through Failure with Fabio: Tony Conrad and Throbbing Gristle/Thee Majesty/Psychic TV mastermind Genesis Breyer P-Orridge illuminate Studio B with a live violin collaboration! The duo performed first together last year at Issue Project Room at a show presented by filmmasker Marie Losier and the results were a now-sold-out LP on the Dais label. Tune in for sublime sounds and as usual with each of these artists in the past on the show, some lively conversation with Fabio!

Erik Bullot is a Visiting Scholar in Romance Languages and Literatures at the University at Buffalo. He specializes in avant-garde cinema, experimental film, documentary film, and filmmaking. Tony Conrad, Professor of Media Study at the University at Buffalo, will provide the introduction for this screening of Glossolalie.

Marie Losier and Tony Conrad will present a special screening of DreaMinimalist (2008), which captures two years of Tony Conrad’s life playing with costumes, practicing his violin, cooking pickled films and his involvement with Flaming Creatures; and SLAP THE GONDOLA (2009), which captures a beautiful day transformed into a slimy Fish Fight on the great rusted Ferry of Brooklyn involving thirty of the filmmakers friends wildly dressed in handmade costumes dancing to the music of April March, starring two mermaids, Tony Conrad and Genesis P-Orridge. What a treat!

This continuous 23-day performance of sound, music, film and lectures composed and performed by those who studied with, were influenced by or knew the composer during his 30+ visits to Buffalo from 1966-1991. The ongoing art happening with its choreographed interplay of live and taped performances transforms the cavernous East Gallery.
