Artists & Models: STIMULUS, May 1, 2010
Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center presents the 22nd incarnation of Artists & Models: STIMULUS, a rousing evening of art installations, performances and live music at the Rock Harbor Yard, 57 Tonawanda St., Buffalo. This year features the work of Media Study grad students, alumni and faculty including work by 404 Error (Anna Scime, Isaac Johnson, Liz Chow, Josh Parkins, James Boatwright, Scott Ries, Olivier Delrieu-Schulze, John Fink, Brian Clark), Al Larsen, Vincenzo Mistretta and Tammy McGovern, among others.

Squeaky Wheel Local Artist Access Residency 2010 Screening

712 Main Street, Buffalo, NYFive Local Artist-in-Residence premiere new work made during their 6-month access residency:
-Al Larsen (MFA ’09) is completing an experimental narrative video that speculates on a generation of young people trying to survive on the fringes of the global economy.
- Stella Marrs is continuing her work in various media that embraces inherited cultural archetypes of girlhood and female identities while posting alternative narratives to the patriarchy.
- Illana Chlebowski is creating a short film based on the reinterpretation of an installation derived from truthful and interpreted histories.
- Sergio Uzurin (Media Study major BA ’08) is collaborating with Buffalo’s youth to install abandoned television sets in public spaces to relay messages about important issues in the community.
- Chris Svoboda is using interfaced sensors with software to allow viewers to control the time, personality and imagery displayed in an interactive portrait installation, on view in the upstairs installation gallery until April 3rd.

DMS Instructor Al Larsen plies his media and music skills this month in Hollow Earth Radio’s Magma Fest 2010.

Hollow Earth Radio’s 3rd Annual Magma Festival will occur throughout the month of March in Seattle, WA. This year, we have crafted 10 amazing shows of live performances around town at all-ages venues including: The Vera Project, The Mine in Ballard, 20/20 Cycle, The Fremont Abbey Arts Center, The Henry Art Gallery, Healthy Times Fun Club, Shafer Baillie Mansion, The In, and Kenyon Hall in West Seattle. Al Larsen @ Media In Transition 6
DMS instructor Al Larsen (MFA ’09) will be presenting a paper at the Media In Transition 6 conference at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, April 24-26. The paper addresses the cultural logic of Web 2.0 and is titled, “Showing and Sharing on a Saturday Night: Participatory Dynamics in Real Space Event Series”.
