The certificate will only be available for students formally accepted
by the University at Buffalo and matriculated in the university.
The certificate will be open to students who have an overall GPA of 2.5
in prerequisite courses, and must be completed concurrently with a
bachelor’s degree.
Transfer students formally accepted by the University at Buffalo will be eligible for the Game Studies Certificate.
Students must have completed the prerequisites or demonstrate equivalent experience in order to submit an application.
Submission Material
Personal Statement: 1 page single spaced. The
statement should include any professional, personal and academic
experience which is relevent to the program, and indicate any special
area of interest (educational, art, mainstream games, interface,
softwear, design etc.). Please also comment on why it is important to
study video gaming and what you hope to accomplish within the program
Work sample/portfolio to include for example: games,
interactive programs, 2D/3D animation, 3D models, moving
images, sound design, digital illustrations. The digital
portfolio should be clearly labelled, well organized and accompanied by
a one page inventory of the work, instructions for viewing, and a full list of
credits and sources.
DARS report.
Written explanation of experience equivalent to prerequisites, if applicable.
Certificate Conferral
The certificate will be awarded on completion of a bachelor’s degree at UB.
The certificate will be awarded with a graduation
requirement of an overall GPA of 2.5 in certificate courses.
