Roy Roussel received his BA in Philosophy from Rice University and his Ph.D. in English Literature from The Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of two books – The Metaphysics of Darkness, a study in the fiction of Joseph Conrad and The Conversation of the Sexes, a study of gender in several 17th and 18th century texts. In addition, he has written articles on a range of subjects.

He is presently working on a project entitled `Talking About Dying’ which investigates the relation between the various popular, legal and medical discourses around end-of-life care and the actual social practices which determine this care.
