Game Studies: Prerequisites

Undergraduate Certificate in Game Studies:

Prerequisites: 12 credits
Prerequisites or their equivalent should be completed before applying to the certificate.

The prerequisites have been selected to provide students with sufficient basic knowledge to proceed successfully with the certificate. They ensure that students have an introduction to thinking critically about media and media aesthetics, a basic understanding of computer programming, and analytical skills.

DMS 110 Programming for Digital Art
DMS 121 Basic Digital Arts OR DMS 155 Intro to New Media OR ART 250 Intro to Digital Practices
ART 140 Time Based Strategies OR DMS 259 Intro to Media Analysis

These prerequisites can be substituted for equivalent classes and experiences with permission of Game Studies Committee (include explanation of classes/experience equivalent to prerequisites as part of your application).
